Book Banter: Demon’s Curse by Alexa Egan

Demon's Curse by Alexa EganTitle: Demon’s Curse
Author: Alexa Egan
Genre: Fantasy
Length: 400 pages
Where Stacie’s Copy Came From: Oshkosh Public Library
Plot Basics:  A group of shapeshifters are being hunted by one who wants more than revenge – she wants their full destruction.   More than shapeshifters, they are the Imnada Brotherhood and outcasts from their clan.  They live secretly in Regency-era England and are on the verge of being discovered.

It is the beginning of new possibilities when the death of one of the their members brings Bianca Parrino to the attention of Mac.  He is determined to find out what she knows and if she is a threat to their existence.

Banter Points:  This was a pretty cool debut novel and series that combines both fantastical elements and Regency-era romances.  It’s sort of the best of both worlds.  There’s some strong female characters that don’t fit into the roles that Society dictates, yet are subject to the whims.  There are brave men who foolishly bolt into situations without knowing all of the details.  There’s revenge, and fighting, and maybe, true love.

Basically, this combines two of my favorite genres.  I’m in.

Bummer Points:  This was a debut novel and it shows.  The overall concept has some intriguing future possibilities.  There’s a faction that want to reunited two factions of the Imnada Brotherhood.  There’s the outsiders who know about them that shouldn’t.  There’s the world building needed to make the Era accept the fantastical.  It’s intriguing, but not always well executed.

Stacie’s Recommendation:  I’m going to keep on with this series.  I’m interested to see the development in the world.
